Read the original

The Da Vinci Growth Leader Profile is a two-part model. One half covers attitudes, described as how you think and feel. The other half covers behaviors, described as how you deliver outcomes. Purpose sits at the center of the diagram, with the five attitudes and the five behaviors arranged around it.

The version documented here is the 2.0 profile, published in 2023 by the Institute for Real Growth and Spencer Stuart.

Key findings

  • The five attitudes are courageous, open-minded, optimistic, authentic, and future-focused.
  • The five behaviors are driving results, leading change, collaborating and influencing, building talent, and acting strategically.
  • Results are defined in stakeholder terms rather than shareholder terms alone. The profile asks the leader to create reciprocal stakeholder value and to work to shared holistic KPIs for sustainable impact.
  • Purpose is treated as a decision filter, not a statement. The profile asks the leader to filter all key decisions with business purpose.
  • Vulnerability and humility are listed as leadership attributes. Under authentic, the profile names approachable, humble, kind, and vulnerable.

How the leader delivers outcomes

Driving results is described in three parts: creating reciprocal stakeholder value, working to shared holistic KPIs for sustainable impact, and enabling innovation for growth.

Acting strategically covers the discipline of choice. It asks the leader to prioritize and ringfence strategic initiatives, and to address short-term challenges in the context of long-term strategy.

Leading change is systemic rather than incremental. The leader provides the roadmap to a future-fit state, drives systemic transformation, navigates trade-offs with transparency and grace, and mobilizes a coalition of change leaders.

Building talent and collaborating both point outward. The leader develops capability for stakeholder engagement, ensures representation of key stakeholder perspectives, engages proactively with stakeholders for win-win outcomes, and fosters interdependence internally and externally.

How the leader thinks and feels

Open-mindedness is defined as transparency, curiosity, learning and adaptability, and an inclusive listening posture described as an ecosystem mindset.

Courage is paired with realism. The profile describes it as unapologetic and taking a stand with high integrity, grounded in reality, and bold enough to make big bets.

Being future-focused is defined as visionary with clarity, intentional, and resilient. Optimism is defined as a positive outlook, a can-do mentality, and trusting.

Scope and limitations

The source is a profile chart rather than a study. It lists attitudes and behaviors and does not present evidence, measurement, or a sample behind them.
