This is an additional session in the IRG2020 online program, run under the title Human Centricity Reset. Its agenda was short and almost entirely participant led: a summary of what COVID had changed, thirty minutes of small group discussion, then debriefs.
Key findings
- The shifts the session summarized were social as much as commercial. They start with an increase in empathy and a need for businesses to become more resilient.
- The moment was framed as make or break for purpose, not as a pause on it.
- The commercial shifts listed were a hard shift to e-commerce, declining globalization, and local businesses thriving.
- The working shifts were remote work, contactless everything, and re-skilling treated as essential rather than optional.
- One listed shift cut the other way for individuals: privacy concerns were recorded as declining.
How the session was run
The design gave most of the time to the room. After a ten minute welcome and a summary of what had changed, groups had thirty minutes together, then fifteen minutes of debriefs and a short close on next steps.
The task set for the groups was specific. Choose a spokesperson, discuss the top five learnings, and come back with a single top-ranking actionable recommendation for growth leaders.
IRG also recorded what it had learned about running the program itself. Pre-work contributes a great deal to the quality of discussion, and sessions are built mainly around interaction using varying formats of group work.
Where the session sat in the program
The program roadmap runs three modules, why, what and how, against two tracks: business growth, broken into ambition, strategy and capability, and personal growth.
The why module covers the Real Growth Study, the Real Growth CMO, decoding the world, leading real growth and personal passion and purpose. The what module moves through stakeholder engagement, abundant markets, fact-based growth strategy, multiple business models and evolving experiences. The how module covers open culture, the anticipative organization, whole-brained working and real growth planning.
Two pieces of research sit inside the roadmap rather than beside it: stakeholder interviews and quantitative benchmarking, followed later by role alignment and a CMO assessment.
Scope and limitations
The learnings recorded here are the output of one session’s group discussion among program participants, not a survey. The deck lists them without weighting or sample.
